Visit of Mr Rahul Narwekar, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra, to Saint Petersburg

At the invitation of the Committee for External Relations of the Government of St.Petersburg and with the support of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai, on September 15 to 18, 2022 Rahul Narwekar, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Maharashtra, visited St.Petersburg on the occasion of 55th Anniversary of Mumbai-St.Petersburg sister-city relations.

During the visit, the Committee organized a meeting between Mr Rahul Narvekar and Nikolay Bondarenko, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg. The parties agreed to prepare a Memorandum of Understanding between the legislative bodies of St. Petersburg and Maharashtra in order to develop inter-parliamentary contacts and exchange experience in legislative activities.

On 15th September Rahul Narvekar met with Evgeny Grigoriev, a member of the Government of St. Petersburg - Chairman of the Committee for External Relations of St. Petersburg.
The participants of the meeting noted the successfull economic cooperation between St. Petersburg and India. In 2021, India entered the top ten trading partners of St. Petersburg. The speaker emphasized the importance of St.Petersburg as the capital of shipbuilding. About 80% of the Indian fleet is built at the shipyards of the city.

The parties expressed their willingness to continue working on improving trade and economic relations by intensifying of business contacts.
